Jean Dwan (1933-2017)

Mary Jean Dwan, 83, of Beacon, died April 25, 2017, at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

Jean was born in Cold Spring on Aug. 17, 1933, to Morris and Mary (Rapalje) Cronin. She was a graduate of Haldane High School and attended St. Vincent School of Nursing in New York City. She worked for 25 years at the Fishkill Correctional Facility before retiring.

In March 1953, at St. Mary’s Church in Cold Spring, she married Rody Dwan, who survives at home.

Survivors include her sons, Lawrence Dwan of Beacon and Michael Dwan of Anaheim, California; her grandchildren, Michael Dwan (Danielle) of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and Cali Dwan of Anaheim; a great-granddaughter, Neala Dwan of Greensburg, and a sister-in-law, Catherine Dwan of Beacon. Services were private.

Bob Moran

Bob Moran (1952-2017)

Robert V. Moran, 64, a lifelong resident of Beacon, died April 23, 2017, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

Bob was born Nov. 3, 1952 in Cold Spring, the son of Richard and Jane (Moscato) Moran. On Oct. 19, 2008, he married Robin Gronniger, who survives him.

Bob retired as an accountant from IBM. Known as “Bugsy” to friends, he was a member of St. Rocco’s Society in Beacon and the Beacon Elks Lodge No. 1493.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his stepdaughter, Rhiannon Thurman (Eric) and their children, Grace and Trinity, of Dallas; his sister, Linda Jane Katountas (Jordan) of Beacon; and his sisters-in-law, Jill Cavenee (Webster) of San Diego and Kim Gronniger of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 26 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org/donate).
