You can never have too many

The formula is simple: get 20,000 cupcakes together on one street, and the people will come.

And for the seventh straight year, they did.

What has become one of the area’s most popular events returned to downtown Beacon on Saturday (May 5) as the K104.7 Cupcake Festival drew crowds to the lower end of Main Street.

Organizers estimated that area bakeries, stores and vendors produced more than 20.000 cupcakes of all sizes, shapes and flavors for consumption by hungry Hudson Valley connoisseurs.

And it wasn’t just about cupcakes.

Beacon stores had their doors open, some with sidewalk sales going. There was lots of ice cream being enjoyed on a nearly perfect day, and there was food and treats from many vendors, live music, bouncy houses, slides and face painting.

The festival evolved from a Cupcake Wars bit on K104.7’s “Woodman in the Morning” show. Judges select seven finalists to compete against each other on festival day, with the winner receiving $1,000. The 2018 winner was Natasia Myers for her Strawberry Shortcake Cupcake.
