Anne Beck (1940-2018)
Anne Mary Beck, 78, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and formerly of Beacon, died at her home on Dec. 17, 2018.
She was born April 16, 1940, to Gerold and Antoinette O’Donnell and grew up in Beacon. She worked at IBM until her retirement, when she enjoyed going on cruises and traveling. She was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.
Anne is survived by her husband, John Beck; her children, Debra Loussedes, Douglas Winkler, Christopher Winkler and Sim Zysk; her grandchildren, Megan Laz and Alexis Loussedes; and a brother, Thomas O’Donnell.
Walter Gates Jr. (1938-2018)
Walter C. Gates Jr., 80, of Ithaca, died Dec. 2, 2018, with Lorna, his wife of 52 years, at his side.
Born Oct. 23, 1938, he was the eldest of three sons of Walter and Grace (Wilcox) Gates. After graduating from Sea Cliff High School on Long Island, Walter attended Cornell University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He then attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a doctorate in chemical engineering and also met Lorna. The two were married Feb. 12, 1966, in Auburn, Massachusetts.
Walter spent his entire career at the Texaco Research Facility in Beacon and is listed on multiple patents. Walter and Lorna retired to Ithaca, where Walter continued to ice hockey, enjoy nature and volunteer with local museum and science organizations. He was a fan of live theater, opera and classical music.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Gary Gates and Glenn Gates. Memorial donations may be made to any charity.
Rose Marie Shevetone (1956-2018)
Rose Marie Shevetone, 62, of Beacon, died Dec. 14, 2018. at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx after a battle with cancer and heart disease.
Rose Marie was born in Beacon on May 25, 1956, the daughter of Frank and Lorraine (Houghtalin) Shevetone. She had been employed by Walmart in Fishkill. She enjoyed watching Nascar, music and baking.
She is survived by her siblings, Michele Hilton (Joe), Francine Shevetone and Frank Shevetone (Tina). She is also survived by a niece, Jennifer Hilton, and a nephew, Frank Hilton.
