McGuire’s on Main trounced its competitors to win this year’s Toys for Tots race. After weeks of fierce, but friendly, competition, McGuire’s collected 286 toys, nearly hald as much agian of the next runner up. The contest is part of the annual Toys for Tots program organized by the US Marine Corps Reserve. Participating pubs and restaurants are collecting new, unwrapped toys until Dec. 20. Toys go to needy families in Putnam County. Organizers remind donors that teens should not be forgotten and that gift cards are acceptable as gifts. The restaurant that gathers the most toys will welcome 3 representatives from each of the 6 other competing establishments, each of whom will have the privilege of buying dinner and drinks at the winning restaurant.
