Sophie M. Donato, 72, of Nelsonville, NY, passed away suddenly on Dec. 30, 2010, surrounded with the love of her family.  Sophie was born in Ossining on Oct. 31, 1938.  She was a vibrant woman, and enjoyed life to its fullest.  She was a good friend who generously touched all she came in contact with.  Her hobbies included cooking and occasional trips to play the slots. Sophie had the esteemed privilege to serve in the United States Marine Corps.  Her patriotism was her passion and she loved her country dearly.  However, the most important part of Sophie’s life was the love of her beloved children and grandchildren, who cherished her tremendously.

Sophie will be sorely missed by all who knew her.  She had a way of touching your life, even if you met her for a brief moment.  Sophie is survived by three adoring children, Kenneth Donato (Teresa); Nicholas Donato (Camille), both of Hopewell Junction, and Pamela Donato-Hustis (David) of Nelsonville.  Additionally, Sophie was blessed with eight grandchildren, K.J., Danielle, Marie, Amanda, Michael and Nicholas Donato of Hopewell Junction and Christopher and Alyssa Hustis of Nelsonville. They were the light of her life as she was theirs.  Her passing will leave a void in their lives, but her memory, generosity and kind soul will live on forever in her children and grandchildren for she  taught them how to love unconditionally and to give of yourself fully, expecting nothing but love in return.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011 at the Clinton Funeral Home Corner of Parrott & Pine Streets (21 Parrott Street) Cold Spring, NY 10516. The Rev. Shane Scott-Hamblen will officiate. Private cremation will follow at the Ferncliff Crematory Hartsdale, NY. Interment of ashes will be announced at a later date. Friends are invited to call at the Clinton Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
