Lisa Weise atop large floral arrangement

On Sunday, March 6 the Philipstown Garden Club sponsored a flower arranging demonstration at the Desmond Fish Library.  Cold Spring resident Lisa Weise and her assistant Amanda Herta demonstrated the art of creating a mass arrangement on site.  It is a very daunting task since mass arrangements are so large they cannot be brought in and must be created where they are going to be viewed.  All the flowers and greens are brought in, cut and placed in water until needed. Weise’s arrangement was created in less than one hour to the delight of the audience who were then able to purchase individual flowers from the arrangement to take home to create their own much smaller bouquet.
Lisa Weise found her passion for flowers some 30-plus years ago working at a greenhouse/florist. Since then she has continued to work as a floral designer, largely in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess.  Amanda Herta got her start in the flower business 16 years ago in Michigan. She relocated to New York, where she and Lisa found common tastes in design that stems from a pure love of flowers.
