Haldane School Foundation Awards Over $37,000 in Grants

Fields, greenhouse, SMART Board, field trips and more to be funded

The Haldane School Foundation (HSF) announced that it will provide $37,867 in educational enrichment grants to the Haldane Central School District for this season’s grant cycle.

The Innovation Grants will help fund the fields project, a foreign-language immersion program for Haldane High School, SMART Board technology for second-grade classrooms, field trips to the Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and many other educational enrichment initiatives. At this year’s HSF Fall Ball, the foundation specifically raised funds for Haldane Health, Wellness, Fitness and Fields; many of the new grants fall into those categories.

“These grants from the Haldane School Foundation will fund educational programs that, in today’s budgetary environment, would otherwise be impossible for the district to afford,” said Haldane Elementary Principal Brent Harrington. “I am especially excited about the renovation of the Elementary School greenhouse, which will transform an abandoned eyesore into an interactive, hands-on science lab.”

Funded by the community

HSF awards Innovation Grants twice per year, in the spring and fall. The grants are funded by donations from the community and through fundraising events held by the HSF throughout the year. Teachers, administrators and parents within the Haldane School System submit grant applications to the HSF for funding that falls outside of what is available under the regular school budget.

Since its inception in 2000, the HSF has raised more than $500,000 for the Haldane School District. “The more than $37,000 in grants in this cycle is one of the largest amount awarded by the foundation,” said HSF Grant Committee Chair Jill Coletta. “Our thanks go to the individuals and businesses in the local community whose support made these grants possible.”

Support Haldane in 2013

Local individuals and businesses will have the chance to continue their support of the Haldane School District at the HSF Trivia Night on Feb. 1, HSF Ladies Poker Night on March 9, and the HSF “Taste of the Valley” Spring Fundraiser at Glynwood on April 20.

Parents and any other members of the community who would like to help the HSF in its mission of enriching the educational experience at Haldane can become a volunteer “Friend of the Foundation.” For more information, contact Shannon Keegan at 917-449-4129 or [email protected].
