The Beacon City School District Wellness Committee will host a Family Fitness Night at Beacon High School from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5. The program is designed to promote fit, healthy lifestyles for children and the parents/guardians of the district’s elementary age students.

The event will take place in the gymnasium, cafeteria and community room at the high school, and will include four separate 25-minute segments in which families will be encouraged to participate in a variety of physical activities planned by local organizations, including ISK Karate, Dancing Tree Yoga, Beacon Recreation Department, Boy Scout & Girl Scout Troops of Beacon, the Beacon High School dance and cheer teams and the district’s elementary school physical education teachers.

A number of local organizations will also have “healthy lifestyle” table presentations, including Common Ground Farm, Hudson Valley Seed, Dutchess County Community and Family Services, Green Teens, the American Heart Association, Catholic Charities (regarding SNAP assistance) and the health insurance provider Fidelis.

Beacon Wellness Committee members will be assisting during the evening, along with 12 to 15 student volunteers from the Beacon chapter of the National Honor Society and several parent volunteers.
