Betsy Briggi

Helen E. “Betsy” Briggi, 77, of Wareham, Massachusetts, and a former longtime resident of Garrison, died Jan. 30, 2017 at Tobey Hospital.

Born in Oneonta, she was the daughter of the late James D. and Helen R. (Philips) Patterson. Her husband of 29 years, Dr. Robert Lawrence Briggi, a dentist in Cold Spring for 28 years, died in 1989.

Betsy lived in Garrison for 35 years before moving to Wareham 12 years ago. She graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey. She was a dental assistant and worked alongside her husband many years before retiring. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed photography. She won many awards for her floral displays.

Survivors include her sons, Lawrence J. Briggi (Mary-Pat) of Croton; Stephen J. Briggi (Lori) of Wareham; and Christopher S. Briggi (Alicia) of Roseville, California. She also is survived by eight grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Feb. 3 at St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham. Memorial donations may be made to the church (82 High St., Wareham, MA 02571) or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (svdpusa.org/Donate).

Mary Stropoli (1922-2017)

Mary Stropoli, 95, of Brooklyn, died on Jan. 31, 2017 at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn. Among her survivors is a son, Anthony Stropoli (Diane) of Cold Spring.

Born on Jan. 5, 1922, in Brooklyn, Mary was the daughter of Antonio and Ermelinda Aulicino. She was a key punch operator for Merrill Lynch.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Feb. 3 at Our Lady of Loretto in Cold Spring with interment at Cold Spring Cemetery.
