Haldane Girls Advance in Regionals

Defeat Pine Plains 47-41

Pine Plains ended the season for the Haldane girls’ varsity basketball team in the 2015 and 2016 tournaments. Not this year.

After winning the Section 1 title on March 4, the Blue Devils defeated the Bombers (the Section 9 champs), 47-41, on March 7 at SUNY New Paltz to advance in the Class C state tournament.

Freshman Olivia McDermott, playing for injured senior Missy Lisikatos, scored 13 points, all in the second half, including five free throws in the fourth quarter, two of them with 14.4 seconds remaining to put the game out of reach.

Haldane will face Port Jefferson in a Class C regional final at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, at SUNY Old Westbury. The winner will advance to the final four in Troy on March 18.
