Evelyn Lahey, 95, of Lake George, and formerly of Cold Spring, died at her home on Feb. 1, 2018, in the company of her family.

Born at home on Nov. 8, 1922, in Cold Spring, she was the daughter of Blaine and Christina “Edna” (Denney) Merritt. Evelyn was the last surviving of their 11 children.

On May 20, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart, Bernard James Lahey. They were married for 57 years before his death in January 2002.

Evelyn was known for her homemaking skills and was always available to help and supply comfort to her extended family.

Early on, Evelyn was a member of the Cold Spring Garden Club, where she won many awards for her gladiolas, and the Methodist Church Women’s Circle, where she organized many church suppers and was famous for her potato salad and baked beans.

Evelyn and Bernie loved to tour on their motorcycle and were members of the Hudson Valley Retreads. They were also members of the National Campers and Hikers Association. They loved trailering and traveled all over the country with family and friends.

Evelyn is survived by her children and grandchildren: Timothy Lahey (Nancy) and Christopher and Jonathan; Janet O’Neil and Kellen (Tamara) and Grady (Caitlyn); and Bethe Myers (Bill) and Liam and Fiona.

Visitation will be held at Clinton Funeral Home, 21 Parrott St., Cold Spring, on Tuesday, Feb. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by services on Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
