Rody Dwan (1931-2018)

Rody J. Dwan, 86, of Beacon, died April 30, 2018, at his home.

Born in Beacon on Nov. 9, 1931, he was the son of Michael and Mae (Magill) Dwan. He married Mary Jean, who died in 2017.

Rody was a graduate of Beacon High School, the Hudson River State Hospital School of Nursing and Albany Medical Center School of Anesthesia. He also served as a captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired after 30 years with the Harlem Valley State Hospital as a nurse anesthetist.

He is survived by his sons, Larry Dwan and Michael Dwan, both of Beacon; his grandchildren, Michael Dwan of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and Cali Dwan of Austin, Texas; and his great-grandchildren Neala and Mae Dwan of Greensburg. His twin sister Catherine of Beacon also survives him. He was cremated after a private service.

Alejandro Hernandez

Alejandro Hernandez (1940-2018)

Alejandro Hernandez, 78, a longtime Beacon resident, died April 29, 2018. Born April 11, 1940, in Anasco, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Benito Hernandez Cruz and Santa Lisiaga Hernandez.

Alejandro enjoyed reading the Bible and playing with puzzles; he also loved to follow professional wrestling.

He is survived by his children, Millicent Hernandez and Alejandro Hernandez; three sisters: Luz Maria Hernandez, Ada Hernandez and Iris Hernandez; and a brother, Isreal Hernandez.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Libby Funeral Home, 55 Teller Ave., Beacon, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on May 5 followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery in Beacon.

Ruth Knapp

Ruth Knapp (1944-2018)

Ruth E. Knapp, 73, a longtime area resident, died April 21, 2018, at the Fishkill Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing.

Ruth was born in Bergen, Norway on June 18, 1944, the daughter of Finn and Erna (Aase) Nilsen. She is survived by her son, Doug Knapp; her granddaughter, Breanna; her brother, Finn Nilsen (Vivian); and her sister, Sonja Horend.

A memorial service was held April 28 at the Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey in Beacon. Memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (michaeljfox.org).

Dennis Schnetzler

Dennis Schnetzler (1954-2018)

Dennis Schnetzler, 64, of Beacon, died April 25, 2018, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

He was born in Beacon on Feb. 10, 1954, the son of Leo and Josephine (Baca) Schnetzler, and married Debra Slinskey, who survives.

Dennis retired from Metro-North and had also worked at Green Fan Economizer in Beacon. He was also a member of the St. Rocco Society and the Beacon Elks.

In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by his children, Christine Schnetzler, Joseph Castillo and Jennifer See; his grandchildren, Ariana, Destiny, Jasmine, Bianca, AJ, Ethan, Cory and Maddie; and his brother, Leo Schnetzler III (Lynda).

Members of the Elks Club held a service on May 1 at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey in Beacon.
