Students and faculty gather as team leaves for Saturday game
Student and faculty from Haldane’s elementary, middle and high schools gathered in the chill at the center of campus today (Nov. 9) to send off its girls’ varsity soccer team to the state finals.
The squad (9-9-1) will face Stillwater (20-0-1) in the Class C semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 3 p.m. at Cortland High School, near Binghamton. The winner will advance to the state final on Sunday.
Stillwater was ranked No. 1 in the state in Class C by the New York State Sportswriters Association in its Nov. 6 poll, and Haldane was No. 4. Stillwater has outscored its opponents this season, 94-14, behind All-State junior Brooke Pickett (3), above. It was state runner-up last year; Haldane returns to the Final Four for the first time since 2014, when it won the title.
