Patricia Dmytryszyn (1946-2019)

Patricia Dmytryszyn, 72, a recent resident of Beacon, died May 19, 2019, at her home.

Patricia was born on August 16, 1946, in New York City, the daughter of Harold Jobson and Nancy Turtarello.

Known affectionately as Patsy Lula, she will be remembered for her love and kindness, and her sense of humor, her family said.

She is survived by her children: Maria Berlingieri; John Berlingireri (Ang); Nancy Manresa (Dave); and Doris Anderson (Terry). She also is survived by 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as her siblings: Angelina Longo, Carol Sinagra, Debbie Reyes and Jack Marino. Interment will be private.

John Koscal

John Koscal (1922-2019)

John Koscal, 96, a longtime resident of Beacon, died May 18, 2019, at Emerald Peek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Peekskill.

Born in Czechoslovakia on Oct. 26, 1922, John was the son of John and Veronica (Sedlak) Koscal. John immigrated to the U.S. as a child. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe. On Jan. 25, 1948, he married Lorraine Scalzo, who survives at home. John retired from IBM in Poughkeepsie.

John lived and breathed golf. He won many titles over the years and in 2002 was inducted into the Dutchess County Golf Hall of Fame. He was a three-time IBM Club Champion and six-time Senior IBM Club Champion. In 1979 he won the Club and Senior Championship, the only time anyone has achieved the feat.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Lynn Golde (John), Glenn Koscal and Tom Koscal (Lisa); and two grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, May 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman St., in Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 23, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 Willow St., in Beacon, with entombment to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).

Yogi Papula

Joseph Papula III (1974-2019)

Joseph P. Papula III, 44, of Beacon, died May 17, 2019, at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital after suffering from a heart ailment.

Known to his family and friends as “Yogi,” he was born on Dec. 29, 1974 in Beacon, the son of Joseph P. and Caroline (Sinclair) Papula. He attended Beacon city schools and graduated from Beacon High School in 1993. He was in several baseball leagues during his younger years.

Joseph is survived by his mother; his sister, Shannon Papula (fiancé Ronald Reynolds Jr.); and his nephew, Joshua Reynolds, all of Beacon. He is also survived by two cousins, Catherine Boes of Wappingers Falls and Terri Vasquez of Beacon, and two women he looked up to as family, Donna Tomlins and Jean Anzovino.

Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, May 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman St., in Beacon. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at St. Joachim Cemetery in Beacon.
