Counties Plan Memorial Day ‘Convoys’

Residents invited to stand along route

Dutchess and Putnam are each planning to organize a “convoy” of vehicles for Memorial Day (Monday, May 25).

In Dutchess, a convoy escorted by sheriff’s deputies will leave Poughkeepsie at 11 a.m. and travel a route south, east and north (at right) that bypasses a number of communities around the county, including Beacon. Each municipality will have official vehicles join the convoy as it passes.

Residents are asked to gather in small groups and show their support along the route by hanging U.S. flags or painting and drawing flags in their windows or on driveways.
