The Hudson Highlands Land Trust (HHLT) is sponsoring a poetry cafí© for students in grades 5-8 at the Philipstown Rec. Led by Irene O’Garden, author and HHLT educator, the program will allow students to get their “creative juices simmering and cook up some poetry.” The goal is to allow participants to “discover the expressive freedom of poetry” in a casual and supportive environment. Students will draft, edit and revise their own work and listen to each other’s. On the final evening, the Cafí© will be open to friends and friends with Ms. O’Garden acting as host. Students will have the option of reading or performing their work.
The program is being offered through the Philipstown Recreation Department in conjunction with the HHLT’s Regional River of Words Program (ROW.) The Poetry Cafí© will run four consecutive Friday evenings, beginning Jan. 28 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The fee for the program is $60 for residents and $75 for non-residents. Pre-registration is required by calling 845-424-4618.
