Walter March

Walter March (1924-2018)

Walter Franklin March, 94, of Fishkill, died May 30, 2018, at Wingate at Dutchess.

Born in Atlanta on Feb. 20, 2914, he was the son of Arthur and Bessie (Wade) March. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and, while serving in the European Theater during World War II, was captured and held as a prisoner of war. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

Walter had a long career with the Green Fuel Economizer Co. in Beacon, where he served as president, vice president, general manager, production manager and engineer. He retired in 1982. He enjoyed many hobbies, including carpentry, home improvement and gardening.

On June 1, 1944, he married Elizabeth “Betsy” Keefe in DeRidder, Louisiana. She died in 2016.

He is survived by his children: Cheryl Kohut (Fred) of Cold Spring; Rachel Freeman (Joe Newman) of Thomasville, Georgia; and Glenn March (Karen) of Fishkill; as well as his grandchildren: Oren David, Evan Freeman, Alma Freeman (Emil Meek), Casey Duchesne (James), Devon Wright (Mike), Quinn Kohut and Connor March; and his great-grandchildren, Arden Meek and Jack Wright.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, at the McHoul Funeral Home, 1089 Main St., in Fishkill. A service will take place at 6 p.m., with the U.S. Army Honor Guard conducting military honors. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. on June 5 at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery.

David Murphy

David Murphy (1932-2018)

David L. Murphy, 86, of Boston, died May 24, 2018. He was born May 12, 1932.

David was a consultant and fundraising executive for nonprofit institutions for most of his career, and an active alumnus of Williams College (Class of 1955).

He is survived his wife, Nancy Keegan Murphy, his children, Janet Murphy, Richard Murphy and David Murphy, and five grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon. A memorial mass will also be held on June 17 in Boston.
