Helen L. Grimm,  92, of Cold Spring, died at her home on Sept. 5, 2018.

She was born Sept. 30, 1925, in Monterey Park, California, and spent her childhood growing up in the area.  She attended the University of Southern California, where she met her future husband, Herbert.

The couple moved east as the job market was not good in California at the time and settled in Hillside Lake before moving to Cold Spring, where Helen resided for 50 years. After moving east, Helen obtained her master’s degree from Columbia University and worked for many years as a psychiatric social worker for the State of New York.

Helen was an avid gardener and a longtime member of the Highland Garden Club. She filled her properties with vast and varied plant specimens and imparted her love of gardening and plants on her children and grandchildren. Helen was a 50-year member of the Girl Scouts of America and an active troop leader for more than 20 years, volunteering at the headquarters in Wallkill well into her 80s.

Helen is survived by her older sister, Eleanor, her children, Peter and Miranda, her grandchildren: Cara, Brandon, Adrienne and Morgan, and five great-grandchildren: Shia, Sean, Alexandra, Sasha and Dustin.

Funeral arrangements are private under the direction of the Clinton Funeral Home in Cold Spring.
