Executive asks residents for their preferences
The Putnam County executive is asking residents to complete a six-question survey to share their perspectives on sales taxes and potential reductions.
Kevin Byrne said in a statement that he plans to implement cuts in his proposed 2026 budget and “wants to ensure the changes reflect what is most beneficial and meaningful for taxpayers.”
The survey is online at putnamcountyny.gov/salestaxsurvey. Its final question asks residents to indicate whether they would prefer a new property tax cut, reduction of the sales tax by 1 percent, making a sales-tax exemption on clothing and footwear below $110 permanent or giving a portion of sales-tax revenue to towns and villages.
