Calls Congressman and wishes him well

By Kevin E. Foley

Nan Hayworth conceded today (Nov.5) that she does not believe a recount or absentee ballots will be sufficient to overcome Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney’s 2,790 vote lead in their race for the 18th Congressional district seat. This is the Bedford NY ophthalmologist’s second defeat against Maloney. The first time, two years ago, she was the incumbent.

In an email to supporters Hayworth wrote in part: “I wish I could be emailing you today after a big win. But, unfortunately, that’s not the case. This was a narrow race, for sure. Congressman Maloney currently leads by just over one percent of total votes cast. At this moment, even allowing for our likely majority of the absentee ballots, we don’t see a path to victory. I just got off the phone with Congressman Maloney and congratulated him on his victory and wished him well. We both agree that all of the votes will be counted and we will respect the final tally.”
