The Cold Spring Water and Highway Departments worked Monday (Jan. 17)  – a holiday – to fix a leak in the water distribution system, which caused a temporary  discoloration of water. According to the Water Department, in order to ensure greater safety in trenches needed for the repair, crews used hydrants to moderate water pressure. That produced discolored water in many parts of the system. In the middle of the village, taps ran with a “rusty” tone. The  condition was  expected to “remedy itself in the next several hours,” the department said in a news alert at 4:48 p.m.. “We appreciate your patience through this emergency.” Those with questions can contact the Water Department by phone at 265-7986 or by e-mail: [email protected]
