Summer River Workshops
For the tenth year Building Bridges Building Boats is offering students in grade 6 and up an opportunity to experience the Hudson River from the thwart of a 26-foot rowboat. Students learn how to row and steer a boat while enjoying the delights of the storied Hudson River. The program runs in weekly sessions, Monday through Friday from 9:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Session I begins July 9 while sessions II and III start July 16 and 30 respectively.
The participants spend most of each day in boats or at riverside destinations accessible by boat. The students learn the lessons of the river and seamanship while enjoying the company of their shipmates. Each day’s destination is chosen by a careful study of the tides and weather tempered by an assessment of the crew’s abilities. Building Bridges Building Boats counselors have many years of experience in small boats with student crews.
Students who have completed at least one session of the Summer River Workshop are eligible to sign on to a multi-day river trip. This year’s trip will be a 5-day journey beginning July 23 spending the days on the river and nights camping along the shore.
