Water Shutoff Due to Valve Replacement Monday, June 10

Work should begin at 9 a.m. and service restored by 11 a.m.

The Office of the Village of Cold Spring announced that Mainlining Services Inc. (MSI) will replace the valve at the intersection of Main and Rock Streets on Monday, June 10. Due to the configuration of bypass piping, it will be necessary to shut off water supply to Rock Street, Kemble Avenue, the Boulevard, Constitution and Forge Gate Drives, Market, New, Main (below the tracks), Fish, West and North Streets.

Work will begin promptly at 9 a.m. MSI anticipates that service will be restored by 11 a.m.

This should be the last of the service outages for the remainder of the project.

  1. When I watch all that brown water pouring out of my faucets every evening when I get home, I try to think about how much we take clear, potable water for granted in this part of the world.

  2. I can’t take it anymore! The metal plates set at Main and Fair (in front of the Municipal Bldng and in front of my residence on the opposite side of the street) are creating an infuriating noise and vibration issue. The plates are not level. And with every vehicle coming down Main St. there is a “Ba Bum, Ba Bum, Ba Bum” — that has awakened me around 6 a.m. every morning since they were placed.

Not only is the noise an issue, but if a vehicle is going fast enough or is heavy enough, it actually is making our building vibrate. They need to be reset, i.e. leveled so that they do not rock. The asphalt on the uphill side needs to be ramped appropriately so that cars, not to mention heavy trucks — really loud — roll over the plates without causing this rocking/vibration/noise.

Also, residents need to be alerted of these water shut offs in their mailboxes. The village and MSI cannot assume that all residents read the papers.

    • You are correct, not all residents read the local newspapers. But the village has another way for residents to get these alerts. Go to coldspringny.gov and sign up. You will know right away. It is a great service that the village provide plus it saves time, money and doesn’t waste paper.
