Group will focus on sloop restoration

Hudson River Sloop Clearwater has canceled its annual Great Hudson River Revival in Croton Point Park for 2016, saying it will focus instead on the ongoing, $850,000 restoration of the sloop Clearwater.

“All of our efforts are going toward the sloop right now,” said Annie Osborn, the Clearwater’s board president. “We have to do everything we can to ensure that the Clearwater keeps sailing; it is the heart and soul of our organization.”
Clearwater said it will instead host a number of smaller musical fundraisers throughout the year, including a possible waterfront concert in Beacon in the fall.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the group, which was founded by Pete Seeger. For more information, visit clearwater.org. The next Open Boat for the sloop will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21, in Kingston, with music, dancing, tours of the restoration and a potluck dinner.
