Salamander and frog counters needed

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is looking for volunteers to act as crossing guards and help count salamanders and wood frogs migrating to woodland pools to breed.

Once temperatures reach 40 degrees at night, these important markers of healthy ecosystems can be found crossing roadways after dark. The ongoing nine-year study looks at where the threatened species are crossing to understand if climate change is shifting their movement. For details, see dec.ny.gov.
