Bill would require firefighter over fireman

The New York State Assembly on May 1 unanimously passed a bill that would replace fireman with firefighter and policeman with police officer in state laws and official documents.

Sandy Galef, who represents Philipstown, was one of the 23 co-sponsors of the bill, a version of which passed the Senate, 56-2, on March 12. Sue Serino, who represents Philipstown and Beacon there, voted yes.
