Mahopac woman also dies in crash

An off-duty Putnam County Sheriff’s deputy was killed on Sunday (Oct. 25) in a motor-vehicle crash on Route 6N in Mahopac.

Deputy Michael J. Moore, 50, of Mahopac, joined the Special Patrol Division in 2019 following his retirement from the Hastings-on-Hudson Police Department. He began his career with New York City in 1997 as a probation officer and in 1998 became an officer with the NYPD. He joined the Hastings department in 2003.

Moore was pronounced dead at the scene. Denise Ryan, 56, of Mahopac, who was driving the other vehicle, died at a hospital of her injuries.

Moore is survived by his wife, Janene, and his children, Jenna, Ryan, and John.

Visitation will be held on Thursday (Oct. 29) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Homes, 418 Route 6, in Mahopac. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. John’s the Evangelist Church in Mahopac followed by interment at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.
