Phil Randazzo (1943-2025)

Phillip Chris Randazzo, 81, died Feb. 4 at Putnam Hospital in Carmel.

Phil Randazzo
Phil Randazzo

He was born in Passaic, New Jersey, on July 31, 1943, the son of Christopher and Pearle (Pizzulo) Randazzo. After attending the Peekskill Military Academy, he graduated from Clifton High School in 1961. There he met the woman he would marry and together they had four children before separating. He played clarinet for the Mustang band, marched in the Rose Parade in California in 1960 and played football in high school.

Phil started out working for his father as a senior project manager in the family construction company, Randall Construction, before becoming an independent contractor and starting the P.C. Randazzo Construction Co. While working for his father, his work took him around the New York/New Jersey area. He worked for such companies as IBM and UniRoyal, libraries, public schools and government buildings at Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, New Jersey; and the post office in Newark.

He had the opportunity to attend the New Jersey State Police Academy, with extremely high marks on his entrance exam, but enjoyed working with his dad and stayed at Randall, running major construction projects.

He was talented at overseeing complicated projects and managing the many workers of varying trades required to get the job done, his family said. He was meticulous with numbers and calculations. Phil was proud of starting his own company and continued working in construction until a back injury made work too difficult.

Later, Phil had another son, Joseph, and was especially passionate about coaching him in baseball and bowling. Phil was an golfer and bowler. He loved few things more than the Yankees. He loved cars, and his midnight-blue 1964 GTO drop-top with white interior was a special point of pride. In his later years, he was “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren, pursued passion projects, spent time with friends and always had a story to tell.

He is survived by his children, Joseph Randazzo (Christina) of Wappingers Falls; Christopher Randazzo (Pamela) of Millville, New Jersey; Tracy Shinabery (Craig) of Defiance, Ohio; David Randazzo (Maryann) of Millville; and Todd Randazzo of Millville.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kate, Rory, Stephanie, Christina, Lara and Linnea; his great-grandchildren, Steven, Jonathan, Kayden, Kora and Kooper; and his siblings, Patrick Randazzo (Patricia) and Christine Donofrio. His brother, Paul Randazzo, and brother-in-law, Michael Donofrio, died earlier.
