He was born Oct. 28, 1959, the son of Francis and Evelyn (Grennan) Provnick, and was a graduate of Dutchess BOCES.

Jay enjoyed talking and laughing with friends and strangers alike, his family said. He spent many hours in his younger years on his CB radio, using the handle “Dynamite.” He loved listening to music and old radio serials, watching black-and-white movies and Jeopardy and having lunch with his new friends at the Beacon Friendship Center. Jay was also a faithful listener to “Eyewitness News” for many decades, which he said opened up the world to him.

Jay will be remembered for his sense of humor; his amazing ability to recall dates, down to the day of the week, of so many different events, both historical and personal; and his autograph collection of the many people who touched his life, his family said.

He is survived by his sister, Denise; his cousins, Brian and Cathy, Greg, Matthew and Julia and Jessica Nenni; and his close friend, Jim Palmatier.

A funeral service was held Feb. 22 at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey in Beacon, followed by interment at St. Joachim Cemetery, Beacon.
