James R. Markey, 63, of Cold Spring, died Feb. 18.
Jimmy was born on Sept. 25, 1961, the son of Leroy and Eva Markey, and raised in Cold Spring. After graduating from Haldane High School in 1980, he worked for 34 years at the Orentreich Foundation for the Advancement of Science as a master carpenter and property caretaker. He was an outdoorsman and member of the Cold Spring Boat Club and spent much of his time hunting, fishing and boating on the Hudson River.
Jimmy was always happy, with a smile that would immediately put you at ease, his family said. He could find common interests with anyone he would talk to and was quick to make friends with those he came to meet. Because of this, he was loved and surrounded by many throughout his life.
He was a fixture on the water, with his wife, LeeAnn, and would often be seen with family and friends enjoying the weather and fishing on the Hudson River. Jimmy loved to vacation with family and friends at the Jersey Shore and in Florida.
Along with his wife, Jimmy is survived by his children, Michele Hayden (Scott), Steven Markey (Cheyanna) and James Markey (Diliah); his grandchildren: Taylor Hayden, McKenzie Markey and Nathaniel Markey; his siblings, Donna Haight (Vinny), Susan Klietz (Roy), Roy Markey (Mia) and Kelly Perrin (Michael); and his close friend, Walter Klietz.
Friends may call on Saturday (Feb. 22) from noon to 4 p.m. at Clinton Funeral Home, 21 Parrott St., Cold Spring. A funeral service will be offered at 3:30 p.m.
