Ruth E. Eisenhower of Cold Spring, New York, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, with her loved ones by her side.
Born Ruth E. Vlachos, she was the beloved wife of David Dwight Eisenhower and mother to the late David Vlachos Eisenhower, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 42.
Ruth pursued higher education at West Chester University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University, where she earned a Masters of Library Science. She was an alumna of Swarthmore High School.
Ruth was an active member of the Cold Spring community and will be remembered for her dedication to her family and her contributions to local initiatives. For many years, she enjoyed working at Grey Printing.
Those who knew Ruth will remember her keen mind and fantastic sense of humor. She loved her family and friends, and was often seen in the community walking her dog.
She is survived by her son Adrian Eisenhower and his wife Kristina and granddaughter Isla.
Such a loss for this community. Ruth spread joy everywhere she went, with Annie in tow.
I am quite devastated to hear of Ruth’s death. I loved her very much although her last few years were difficult. Connie Hogarth, Ruth and I had many wonderful talks. Goodbye dear friend!
RIP Ruth you will be dearly be missed by all.
Ruth was always kind to me from the moment I moved to Cold Spring in 1999. From posting her photos of my pets at Grey’s to helping us when we were newbie chicken stewards to seeing her driving her orange pick up and/or walking her beloved dog(s) around the village she was a presence in many people’s daily life. May her memory be a blessing.
Ruth did so much for so many. Her photos at the former location of Grey Printing were our first introduction to all the personalities and cultures of Philipstown, and she knew and cared about everyone pictured. We were excited when we got added to the gallery. She was always such fun to talk to, then and recently, despite her sadness; she kept going and was an example for us all.
I have so many fond memories of Ruth since my early days at Haldane. So many laughs playing women’s softball. Our sons grew up together and Ruth was very involved in school and community events. She was also instrumental in the print shop, helping me prepare for my retirement business needs. My sympathy and love are extended to the family and all those who appreciated this amazing woman!
