Parents and others asked to avoid campus

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and the Haldane school district will be conducting an exercise at the Cold Spring campus on Tuesday (April 9).

The exercise will include numerous law enforcement agencies, the Cold Spring Fire Co. and the Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corp., the sheriff said.

Non-participants, including parents, are asked to avoid the Haldane campus.

One reply on “Sheriff to Conduct Drill at Haldane”

  1. Something about this sounds rather sinister. Why all the mystery?

This drill is taking place at a school with young people and it involves what sounds like it will have a large gang of emergency service and police personnel. Yet parents and non-participants are not allowed. Hmmm….

I am getting a little tired of what seems like a rather large police presence in bucolic Putnam County under the current regime which seems hellbent on instilling fear into the hearts and minds of residents. Even our schools with their “resource officers” and drills are becoming less friendly than in days past.

Another example: Take a look at Putnam County Threat Assessment Management and see how you too can rat out your neighbor for “thought crimes.”

We live in a beautiful part of the Hudson Valley. Our towns, schools and communities are for the most part safe and well maintained. Yet we are constantly told that we need to be “safe.” Do you think that maybe it has something to do with the emergency services and sheriff department’s budget requests?

Remember what Ben Franklin said: They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
