Joe Aguiar (1938-2024)
Joseph Daniel Aguiar, 86, died July 23.
Joe was born in Beacon on March 4, 1938, the son of Lawrence and Katherine Aguiar. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dana, whom he loved deeply and to whom his love and commitment was evident to all.
Joe attended St Joachim’s Catholic school and Beacon High School, graduating in 1956. He was a salesman and was once told he could sell ice to an Eskimo. After retiring, he worked as a courier for 12 years, fully retiring at age 84, after working for 70 years. He had an aptitude for mechanicals and carpentry and could fix any item that was broken, from cars to can openers, and build and repair most anything, his family said.
He was a fan of duct tape and Gorilla glue. His most recent project was restoring his 1959 Jim Dandy tractor in his garage workshop, where he spent many hours in retirement with his friend and neighbor, Jim McGurl.
Joe had strong opinions on just about everything, especially politics, world affairs and health issues, and liked nothing better than to passionately discuss these topics. He obtained his pilot’s license in his 20s and loved flying a Piper Cub plane over the Hudson Valley.
In earlier years, he enjoyed camping with his family. He was an avid reader and loved watching movies, particularly classics such as Casablanca, The African Queen or any war movie.
He had a great sense of humor and loved to get people going. He was a devoted Christian.
Along with Dana, his wife of 45 years, he is survived by his children: Jodie Bryson (Ron), Sarah Ramsay (James), Matthew Aguiar (Johanna) and Joseph Aguiar (Paola) of Stuttgart, Germany. His eldest son, Ryan Aguiar, died in 2021.
He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren: Casey and Alexis Aguiar; Sawyer and Emma Bryson; Josiah, Joseph, Rebekah, and Rachel Ramsay; and Mateo, Elena, Sofia and Emma Aguiar, and his sisters, Lorraine Yuolio, Claudia Archimede and Christine Masseo.
