Two Lakeland Central School District students placed first and third in the annual Westchester Science & Engineering Fair held at Sleepy Hollow High School this past weekend. Lakeland High School’s Sam Nadell placed first in the category Earth Science and also received the Stockholm Junior Water Prize.
       Three Walter Panas High School students received honors. Kaitlin Hamilton placed third in the category of Medicine and Health. Frank DiRenno received the ASM International Foundation Award for an outstanding materials science project, the National Society of Professional Engineers award for applied engineering principles, and the Air Force Award in recognition of an outstanding engineering project. Troy Hugick received the Navy Award in recognition of an outstanding project and the Yale Science and Engineering Association Award for top score for an 11th grader in Engineering.
       WESEF, the Westchester Science & Engineering Fair, provides a forum for high school students to showcase their scientific research studies and compete for scholarships and prizes.
