Caroline Francese (1935-2024)

Caroline A. Francese, 89, a lifelong resident of Beacon, died June 24 at the Manor at Woodside in Poughkeepsie, with her daughters by her side.

She was born in Beacon on March 1, 1935, the daughter of Nicholas and Josephine (Pavone) Policella. On Feb. 12, 1956, she married Nicholas Francese at St. John the Evangelist. He died in 2017.

Caroline worked at Texaco Research Center in Glenham her marriage. After her children were born, she became a fixture at The Card Shop on Main Street in Beacon. She loved cooking, baking and having her family around her and at her home. With her husband, Nick, she enjoyed traveling, including many cruises, international travel and many of the 50 states and national parks. She also enjoyed trips to the casinos.

Caroline is survived by her daughters, Susan Kenny (John) and JoMarie Fitzpatrick (Dare); her grandchildren, Gregory Fredricks, Kelly Rich, Marques Rich, Eric Fredricks and Amy Fredricks; her great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Zoey and Lucy Fredricks and Ellie and Maddie Rich; her sisters-in-law, Rosemarie Policella, Jean Francese and Rose Horton; and her brother-in-law, Frank Francese (Ruth). Her brother, Donald Policella, died earlier.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held June 27 at St. John the Evangelist, followed by interment at St. Joachim Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hudson Valley Hospice (hvhospice.org) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).

Lillian Rousseau (1951-2024)

Lillian Ann Rousseau, 72, a longtime Beacon resident, died June 20 at the Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

She was born on Oct. 24, 1951, in the Bronx, the daughter of Robert Killough and Dorothy McKinstry.

Lillian graduated from Beacon High School in 1969. She worked various jobs in and around the Beacon and Fishkill area. She worked in the old Hat Factory and the Guidance Association of America in Beacon, and at the Second-Hand Rose clothing store in Fishkill, which was owned by a family member. Her last job was at Advanced Oxy-Med Services in Beacon, for over 10 years, until she retired.

She is survived by her son, Robert Holmes, and her granddaughter, Brianna Lynn Holmes. She is also survived by a close friend, Sandy Roman.

The family will receive visitors on Tuesday (July 2) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Libby Funeral Home, 55 Teller Ave. in Beacon.
