Eleanor Campbell (1936-2024)
Eleanor Campbell, 88, died Aug. 11 at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh.
She was born April 1, 1936, in Stormville, the daughter of Russell and Marie (Jackson) Mima. In 1957, she met and married Fred Campbell.
Eleanor had a long career at Three Star Anodizing in Beacon, until her retirement. She was an avid reader and loved watching soap operas and cooking shows. She also enjoyed camping trips. But, most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Mary Mima, Yvonne Norris (James), Craig Campbell and Bruce Campbell, as well as 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Her sons, Russell Mima and Fred Campbell Jr.; her grandson, Lord Devine Johnson Campbell, and her siblings Lena Green, Harriet Stroman, Mary Alice Mima, Elizabeth Stroman and Everett Mima, died earlier.
A Celebration of Life was held Aug. 16 at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey in Beacon, followed by interment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
Levisa Lunsford (1939-2024)
Levisa Mae Lunsford, 84, died Aug. 7 at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh.
She was born on Aug. 22, 1939, in Alamance County, North Carolina, the daughter of Jack and Marjorie (Covington) Williamson.
On April 16, 1960, in Beacon, she married Samuel Linwood Lunsford III, with by the Rev. Mattie Cooper officiating. Samuel died in 2016 after they had been married for 56 years.
Levisa was a longtime member of the Springfield Baptist Church in Beacon, where she served on several committees. She was an usher and a Mother of the Church. Along with her sister, Mary Lou, she founded the Seniors Feeding Seniors program. She spent many years as a home health aide, working most recently for Any-Time Home Care Service in Poughkeepsie before her retirement.
Levisa is survived by her children: Mark Lunsford, Alesia Lunsford, Alane Lunsford and Jack Lunsford (Jamie); and 19 grandchildren: Jacquan, Alyssa, Brenna, Iyleea, Jaedyn, Laquan, the Rev. Michael Bell (Michelle), Malcolm (Arielle), Stephon, Mark, Lamarr, Alexia (Lance), Marcus, Monica, Markel, Adina, Hasan, Samuel IV, Danielle (Antwon) and Seaford Brown.
She is also survived by 33 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and seven siblings: Mary Lou Williamson, Martha Williamson, Sheila Bush, Paul Sellers, Michael Sellers, Ricardo Sellers, Bonita Sellers and Lessie Wright.
Her son, Samuel Linwood Lunsford IV; and siblings Gloria McNair, Priscilla Sellers and brother, James “Skinner” Williamson, died earlier.
A Home-Going Service was offered on Aug. 15 at Springfield Baptist Church.
Beverly Morgan (1941-2024)
Beverly A. Morgan, 83, died Aug. 12 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
Born in 1941, she was the daughter of Johnson and Leatice Morgan. A graduate of Beacon High School, she began a long career at CBS News as an assistant to Walter Cronkite and retired as a producer for 60 Minutes.
She was a member of Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Fishkill and supported many local churches and national charities. She was particularly fond of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and cared for strays.
Her siblings Louise Morgan, Dianne Simmons and Patrick, Donald, Sonny, Leonard, Giles and Edward Morgan, died earlier. She is survived by her brothers,
Albert Morgan (Gloria) of Columbia, South Carolina, and Charles Morgan of Poughkeepsie; and her companion, Freddy McGrew.
Beverly will lie in repose at Star of Bethlehem, 37 Lamplight St., Fishkill, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday (Aug. 19). A service will begin at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
David Quill (1953-2024)
David P. Quill, 71, died Aug. 8 at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh with family members at his side.
He was born in Beacon on Jan. 25, 1953, the son of Rodman and Agnes (Medley) Quill. He graduated from Beacon High School and was a member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church for many years.
David loved his hometown dearly, especially BJ’s Restaurant on Main Street and the waterfront, where he enjoyed great times with his cousins Molly Medley and Rodney Medley. He also enjoyed spending time with other family and friends and had a great love for music.
David worked as a truck driver for more than 30 years, retiring from Lobos Distributing in New York.
He is survived by his children, David Quill (Kelly Reyes) and Alexia Morgan (Lance); and his grandchildren: Maddox Quill, Evie Quill, Lance Morgan Jr. and Gia Morgan. He is also survived by his siblings, Stephanie Queensbury, Lisa Quill, Karen Quill, Michael Quill and Rodman Quill Jr. His brothers, Steven Quill and Tyrone Quill, died earlier.
The family will gather on Saturday (Aug. 17) from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Libby Funeral Home, 55 Teller Ave. in Beacon.
Aurea Ramirez (1937-2024)
Aurea Ramirez, 87, died Aug. 11, surrounded by family members.
She was born May 6, 1937, in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Antonio Ramirez Vargas and Julia Vega Mercado.
Aurea enjoyed music, dancing and knitting. She loved to play dominoes and had a deep faith and loved church.
She is survived by her children, Madeline Castro, Jose Velez, Evelyn Velez and Nilsa Gallagher; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her sisters, Vivian Castro and Irma Ramirez. Four siblings and her granddaughter, Marisol Rivera, died earlier.
The family will gather on Saturday (Aug. 17) from noon to 2 p.m. at Libby Funeral Home, 55 Teller Ave. in Beacon, followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery.
Manuel Voigt (1950-2024)
Manuel Guillermo Voigt, 74, died Aug. 13, surrounded by family members.
He was born June 20, 1950, in Manhattan, the son of Isabel Tezanos and Herman Voigt. On Nov. 12, 2013, he married Marlene Mordas.
Manuel worked in international sales for more than 40 years, eventually specializing in Latin America. He loved basketball, tennis and politics. Manuel was never shy about sharing his perspective on the world and life. He was a unique and memorable individual, his family said.
In addition to his wife, Manuel is survived by his sons, Stefan and Manny.
Family and friends will gather on Sunday (Aug. 18) from 2 to 6 p.m. and on Aug. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman St. in Beacon, followed by interment at the St. John the Divine mausoleum in New York City.
