Margaret A. “Peggy” Ireland, 92, a longtime Cold Spring resident who spent her recent years in Beacon and Wappingers Falls, died May 21.
She was born in Cold Spring on July 11, 1931, the daughter of Emerson and Alice (Myatt) Pierce, and graduated from Haldane High School. In 1950, in Cold Spring, she wed Charles Ireland. They were married for 38 years, until his death.
Peggy worked at Sonatone in Cold Spring before becoming a production supervisor at the Fairgate Rule Co. She was a former member of the Cold Spring Baptist Church.
After retirement, she became a greeter at Sam’s Club in Fishkill. She also enjoyed going to yard sales, ballroom dancing, reading and attending the St. John’s Seniors and the Gadabouts traveling group in Beacon. She enjoyed an evening of bingo with friends or a good laugh with the girls. Peggy knew how to enjoy life’s simplest pleasures, her family said.
She is survived by her children, Charlene Raymond, Charles Ireland (Leslie) and Colleen Karabinos (Wayne). She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her brother, William Pierce, died earlier.
Peggy’s family will celebrate her life on June 15 with a graveside service at 10 a.m. at the Cold Spring Cemetery at 36 Peekskill Road.
