One lane at Breakneck Tunnel through Nov. 14

The state Department of Transportation announced on Friday (July 26) that it will close one lane on Route 9D at Breakneck Tunnel beginning Monday and continuing through Nov. 14.

Traffic will alternate using a temporary signal, the agency said. The closure is part of a $2.4 million project to replace the tunnel lighting and concrete lining; resurface the travel lanes and shoulders; and widen the shoulders for pedestrians.

  1. State officials decided the fall foliage season was the most appropriate time to cut Route 9D to one lane — are they insane? When making these decisions, do they not have any advisers who are familiar with the local area? [via Facebook]
