Beacon’s Medic 1 ambulance is now equipped with a CyanoKit to treat people who have been exposed to cyanide through smoke inhalation or hazardous materials, the city announced this week.

The kits deliver hydroxocobalamin, an injectable form of vitamin B12 that binds to cyanide, neutralizing its toxic effects.

Ambulnz, the ambulance provider contracted by Beacon to provide advanced life support services, is the first agency in southern Dutchess County to carry the kits.
