David Haines (1938-2025)
David A. Haines, 86, died June 19.
He was born Oct. 1, 1938, in Baltimore, the son of Harry and Laura (Law) Haines. David was a brother at St. Paul’s Friary at Graymoor in Garrison before leaving the order. His faith and belief never wavered and he was a dedicated and active parishioner of St. Mary Mother of the Church in Fishkill.
On Oct. 3, 1976, he married the former Nancy Lupis, who survives him, along with his stepbrothers and sisters. His daughter, Jennifer Lynn Haines, died in 2019.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday (June 23) at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson St., in Fishkill, followed by interment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Mother of the Church (saintmaryschurch-fishkill.org) or the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement (atonementfriars.org).
James Sandford Jr. (1957-2025)
James Edward Sandford Jr. died June 15.
He was born Dec. 31, 1957, in Beacon to James and Louise Sandford. On April 28, 1984, he married Lisa Marie Zeyak, who died earlier.
James served in the U.S. Navy from 1976 to 1980, was stationed aboard the USS Saratoga. His family said his time in the Navy shaped his values of discipline, integrity and service.
After his service, James worked as a corrections officer and was union president of Council 82. He was a life member of Beacon Engine Fire Co. No. 1, the Beacon Elks and St. Rocco’s Society.
James is survived by his sons, James Sandford III and Edward Sandford; his grandsons, James Sandford IV, Eden Sandford and Elias Sandford; and his sister, Paula Merritt (Frank). Funeral services will be private.
