Library to host performance and talk

The musician Chris Merwin will play and discuss the Japanese shakuhachi bamboo flute in a free performance at the Howland Public Library in Beacon at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb 18.

Merwin will play folk songs, classical pieces and meditations on the instrument, which produces an ethereal sound. He also will share the history of the flute and its unique sheet-music notation. The Howland Public Library is located at 313 Main St. For more information, call 845-831-1134.
