Dutchess lawyers had 30 years of service

The newly-elected Dutchess County district attorney dismissed three longtime bureau chiefs a few weeks into his term, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Anthony Parisi, a Democrat who was elected in November, dismissed Kristine Whelan (Special Victims), Robert Knapp (Narcotics) and Cindy Murphy (Justice Court and DWIs), who had been working for the office for nearly 30 years, in January. Whelan’s supervisor was Matthew Weishaupt, whom Parisi defeated in the election to succeed William Grady, a Republican who held the position for 40 years.

The Journal said all three filed notices of claims with the county in April asking for their jobs, back pay and compensation. Parisi has filled the three positions.
