Officers from the Beacon Police Department, as well as neighboring jurisdictions, honored Chief Sands Frost, who retired on Friday (June 14).

Frost, 62, spent nearly 41 years with the Beacon force, which hired him as a patrol officer in July 1983. He was named chief in 2020 and helped guide the city through the pandemic shutdown while working with demonstrators to safely manage protests in the wake of George Floyd’s murder at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.

Frost was honored Friday with certificates of recognition from state Sen. Rob Rolison, whose district includes the Highlands, and Jonathan Jacobson, an Assembly member whose district includes Beacon, as well as handshakes and hugs from dozens of friends, family members and co-workers. Frost’s replacement, Tom Figlia, was confirmed by the City Council last month.
