Beacon residents gathered at Seeger Riverfront Park on Wednesday (June 19) to mark the end of slavery after the Civil War. There was live music and dancing, but with afternoon temperatures approaching 100 degrees, there was also plenty of flavored ice, iced drinks, wet cloths on heads and people searching for shade under the trees.
