Gristmill Hermitage, a Zen Buddhist practice center in Garrison, has invited members of the community to gather in acknowledgement of the sadness and to begin grieving the deaths and devastation in Japan caused by the earthquakes, tsunami, and on-going danger from radiation. 
       The Gristmill service will begin Sunday, March 27 at 11 a.m. with the chanting of the Sutra of Great Compassion for those who have perished, music, and the opportunity to meditate. Additional readings, art, and musical tributes from the local community are welcome. The Hermitage asks those wishing to participate to please contact Sensei Bonnie Myotai Treace who will be conducting the service, prior to Sunday, at: [email protected]. As of today, the death count in Japan is over 8,000, with more than 13,000 still missing. More than 1,000 Buddhist temples are thought to have been damaged or destroyed. 

The Gristmill is located at 117 Lower Station Road, with limited parking available onsite and nearby at the Garrison train station.
