The Philipstown/Fishkill Freedom Ford Marlins had a big day on offense and defense on Saturday, April 28, defeating the Rombout Fire Reds, 7-1.

Trajan McCarthy got the start for the Marlins and after giving up a hit to the lead-off batter and a walk to the second batter, pulled it together to strike out the 3, 4 and 5 hitters to get out of the inning. In the second inning, Matthew Molina lead off with a single for the Marlins before stealing second, third and home to score the first run of the game.

The bottom of the second saw the first double play of the season for the Marlins as McCarthy fielded a grounder, turned and hit shortstop Jeremiah Anson, who gunned it to first baseman Matthew Molina for the double play. Ryan Smith, Mikey Martino, Charlie Lyons and Evan Prine each added an RBI as the Marlins took a commanding lead in later innings. For the Reds, Eugene Yazzetti and Daniel Nakabayashi combined as pitchers and struck out 13 batters combined.
