Carole Atwell (1943-2024)
Carole A. Atwell, 81, died Aug. 28 at the New York State Veterans Home in Montrose.

She was born in Queens on July 9, 1943, the daughter of Frank and Sally (Aloisio) Vassallo. On Feb. 2, 1964, in Ozone Park, Queens, she married Robert Atwell, who died on Feb. 25, 2014.
Carole worked as a bookkeeper, most recently at BMW of Hudson Valley in Poughkeepsie, until her retirement. She enjoyed visiting casinos and solving puzzle books. She also loved being with her family, especially her grandsons.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Atwell Jr. and Kevin Atwell; her daughter-in-law, Kimberly Pilla; and two grandsons, Robert Atwell and Jackson Atwell. She is also survived by her brother, Richard “Rick” Vassallo. Along with her parents, her stepmother, Armenia “Mae” Vassallo, died earlier.
The family will receive friends on Aug. 31 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Libby Funeral Home, 55 Teller Ave., in Beacon. A service will be offered at 1 p.m., followed by interment at St. Joachim Cemetery.
William Eckert (1960-2024)
William James Eckert, 64, died Aug. 24 at his home.

He was born Aug. 4, 1960, the son of William and Shirley (Brune) Eckert. William had worked as a corrections officer until his retirement in 2008 as a sergeant at the Fishkill Correctional Facility. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
William is survived by his son, William Eckert (Danielle) and their children, Elizabeth Soto and William Eckert; his sister, Susan Rothbort (Al); and his lifelong friend, Jason Riehl. His sister, Sherri Siddle, died earlier.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Aug. 31) at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman St., in Beacon, followed by interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh.
Fran Shevetone (1952-2024)
Francine L. Shevetone, 72, died Aug. 26 at her home.

Fran was born Feb. 10, 1952, in Beacon, the daughter of Frank and Lorraine (Houghtalin) Shevetone. After graduating from Beacon High School in 1970, she began a 45-year career in banking at the Fishkill National Bank in Beacon. Her final position before her 2018 retirement was vice president in charge of lending operations at Rhinebeck Bank in Poughkeepsie.
Fran enjoyed traveling; her favorite trips were an Alaskan cruise and visits to Italy, Cape Cod and Hilton Head. She was a fan of the Marist College women’s basketball team.
Fran loved sports and played and coached softball and became a golfer. She also enjoyed watching tennis and the WNBA and had many memories from Max’s on Main in Beacon.
She is survived by her siblings, Michele Hilton and Frank Shevetone (Tina); her niece, Jennifer Hilton; and her nephew, Frank Hilton. She will be missed by her friends and travel companions Liz Kudan, Christine Ulrich, Heidi Thorn, Etha Dexter, Bobbi Sablinski and Bitsy Castillo. Her sister, Rose Marie Shevetone, and brother-in-law, Joseph Hilton, died earlier.
A graveside service will be held at St. Joachim Cemetery, 325 Washington Ave. in Beacon, at noon on Sept. 7, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life at St. Rocco’s Society, 26 S. Chestnut St., in Beacon.
