John Halvey (1945-2024)

John P. Halvey, 79, of Poughkeepsie and formerly of Beacon, died Sept. 28 at his home.

He was born Aug. 8, 1945, in Newburgh, the son of John and Margaret (Forrestal) Halvey. After graduating from Beacon High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1967 from Villanova University.

John served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, then worked for 31 years for the New York State Office of Mental Health until his retirement in 2001. He worked for most of his career at the Hudson River Psychiatric Center and Middletown Psychiatric Center in the office of patient resources.

He loved watching sports and enjoyed traveling with his partner of 27 years, Su Biggio, to follow Villanova basketball and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also enjoyed traveling with Su all over the U.S., especially to Hilton Head.

Along with Su, John is survived by his siblings, Ellen Norman (Harry) and Peter Halvey; six nephews and a niece; and Su’s family: Sally LaPierre, Stacey Biggio (Grace) and Stephen Biggio.

A graveside service was held Oct. 3 Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley (regionalfoodbank.net) or the Dutchess County SPCA (dcspca.org).

David Marinaccio (1967-2024)

David Marinaccio, 57, died Sept. 28.

He was born Jan. 11, 1967, in Cold Spring, the son of Robert and Janet (Mellis) Marinaccio.

David was a laborer for Local 17 of the Laborers’ International Union in Newburgh. He was a Giants fan and enjoyed snowmobiling and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his father and brothers, Michael (Denise), Robert (April) and John (Lori), as well as his nieces and nephews, Brett, Breanna, Gabby and Rob. His mother died in 2012.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 8) at McHoul Funeral Home, 895 Route 82 in Hopewell Junction. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org).

Don Seher (1945-2024)

Donald H. Seher, 79, died Sept. 29 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

He was born April 6, 1945, in Sacramento, California, the son of Theodore and May (Markel) Seher. In 1980, he married Marsha Heinrich, who died in 2013.

Don served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1966. He worked as a long-haul truck driver and as a machinist for Chemprene in Beacon and IBM and its affiliates. After retiring, Don worked part-time at the Manheim Auto Auction in Newburgh. A car enthusiast, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and collecting die-cast models.

Don is survived by his sister, Yevette Welch; his stepchildren, Danielle La Vallee, Greg La Vallee (Laura), Brendan Guernsey (Debbie) and Brian Guernsey; his stepdaughter-in-law, Terry La Vallee; his sister-in-law, Janet Battistoni; and his close friends, Dennis and Rose Quirk. His siblings, Warren Seher, Theodore Seher Jr., Douglas Seher and Vinita Shubin; and his stepson, John La Vallee, died earlier.
