Pairs with bassist Lou Pappas on April 24
The Howland Cultural Center presents New York’s Eddie Diehl, widely recognized as one of the greats of jazz guitar, in a performance with Lou Papas, bass, on Friday, April 24, at 8 p.m.
Diehl, who currently lives in Poughkeepsie, has been playing professionally since the 1950s and has worked with well-known performers such as organists Jack McDuff (where his replacement was George Benson), Billy Gardner, Gloria Coleman, Boo Pleasant and Reuben Wilson.
In 1965, he appeared on the Ed Sullivan show with South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela and singer Miriam Makeba. In 1972, he recorded the iconic Thinking of Home with saxophonist Hank Mobley. He has also recorded with jazz piano greats Al Haig and Hank Jones. In 2006, a collaboration with Jones, drummer Mickey Roker and bassist John Webber resulted in Diehl’s CD Well, Here It Is.
Bassist Lou Pappas has performed with Jay McShann, Bill Watrous and Randy Brecker. Pappas is now an instructor of double bass at Vassar College and SUNY New Paltz.
