Ceremony honored those who have served

Veterans Day 2015

Despite overcast skies and a light rain, more than 60 veterans, residents and local leaders came out on Nov. 11 to honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces as part of Cold Spring’s 2015 Veterans Day ceremony at the war memorial below St. Mary-in-the-Highlands Episcopal Church.

Celebrated as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day in several other countries, Veterans Day marks the anniversary of the end of World War I at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. America observed Armistice Day until the holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Local veteran Francis (Terry) Lahey (far left in photo) led Wednesday’s memorial service. Cold Spring Mayor Dave Merandy read a proclamation from U.S. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney.
